Pollution – Jude 1:1-16

Pollution – Jude 1:1-16
By Pastor Lee Hemen
May 6, 2018

I always laugh when the media does a story on pollution and they show pictures of steam coming from “smoke” stacks. Few realize that there are very few real “smoke” stacks within the US and Canada and this is why the media has to use billows of steam in order to make you think it is smoke. It’s like when they would write dire warnings about radiation from nuclear power plants and they would show us pictures of the water cooling towers and the huge plumes of steam coming from them.

Is there pollution? Does it occur today? Absolutely! And there is also a spiritual pollution that is just as harmful that many do not realize has affected the way they think about the Bible, salvation, and even Jesus. Most of the New Testament writers had experienced spiritual pollution firsthand. Jude, Jesus’ brother, meets this contamination head on and dramatically reveals it for what it truly is. Let’s discover for ourselves what he wrote concerning pollution…
READ: Jude 1:1-16

Many in our day and age let others do their thinking for them. They are not good at discernment and rely on others to tell them truth when in fact these folks may not have their best interests in mind. As believers we must be willing to find the truth, especially when it concerns Jesus. Jude writes that…

I. Pollution occurs when believers stop contending for their faith! (Vv. 1-4)

Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, to those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

1. Jude introduces himself right away as “a servant of Jesus Christ and the brother of James”. He is not someone who speculates about Jesus because he declares he is a “servant” a “doulos” or bond slave. Someone who willing bound himself to the one he served and in this case for Jude it was Jesus. Jesus was his Master but also notice that he writes that he is the “brother of James”. There are three differing arguments as to who Jude was: 1) Jude the Apostle but he never mentions being one, 2) Jude an early leader in the Jerusalem church and one of two nominees to replace Judas who betrayed Jesus, but early church history and evidence does not support this, and finally 3) he was Jesus’ half brother which most historians support. He calls himself a “servant” because he had not always believed in Jesus. He now was writing “to those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ”. He wanted them to know the “mercy, peace, and love” of Jesus as he now did “in abundance”. He wanted to write them about their shared faith but instead he “felt” that he “had to write and urge [them] to contend for the faith that was once for entrusted to the saints”! Jude was worried because “certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago [had] secretly slipped in among” the believers! Like wolves in sheep’s clothing these ungodly men camouflaged themselves in the flock of Christ. They were “godless men” meaning they did not care about the Lord at all. Instead they wanted to “change the grace of God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord”! Wow, things have not changed much have they? These guys wanted to add to or subtract from what Jesus taught and who he was! Sound familiar? In fact they wanted to do so, so they could excuse their immoral behavior! Jude knew that pollution occurs when believers stop contending for their faith!

EXAMPLE: The word “contend” is an old-fashioned word that isn’t often used anymore. It means to fight for, stand up for, or stand firm for. The idea is someone who is willing to stand their ground for what they know to be true! Here is a good example: 71% of Americans identify themselves as “Christian” but 51% of those who identify themselves as “churchgoers” have never heard of the Great Commission! Many in our day consider themselves “spiritual” but not religious. The Barna Group writes that “The twin cultural trends of deinstitutionalization and individualism have, for many, moved spiritual practice away from the public rituals of institutional Christianity to the private experience of God within.” It is a faith based solely on feelings rather than actual facts. It can excuse the immorality of murdering babies in the womb, living together before marriage, and same sex marriage. Why has this occurred? Jude writes that pollution occurs when believers stop contending for their faith!

Can there be consequences for not “contending” for our faith? Jude writes that there certainly can be and in fact the consequences can be dire. James in fact goes on to write that…

II. Pollution carries its own consequences! (Vv. 5-9)

Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home–these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. In the very same way, these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject authority and slander celestial beings. But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

1. What James was writing them wasn’t anything new but he wanted to remind them what their inaction could cost them if they were not willing to clean up their spiritual act so-to-speak. So, he writes, “Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.” Say what!? Remember the little incident with the bronze snake on a pole? And how those who made and worshipped Golden Calves died in the wilderness without ever seeing the land promised to them? “And the angels” Jude writes, “who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home–these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.” You mean God holds even angelic being accountable? Yep! And “In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion.” All of these “serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire”! Jude knew that “in the very same way” those who slithered into the church and corrupted the gospel that “these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject authority and slander celestial beings” just as the perverts of Sodom and Gomorrah did! Curiously Jude then cites a pseudepigraphical book, The Assumption of Moses, in showing that these false teachers had no respect for even heavenly beings: “But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you!’” These folks had deliberately brought the gospel, Jesus, and who he was down to their level on purpose. They wanted to excuse their polluted spirituality but Jude reminds us that pollution carries its own consequence!

EXAMPLE: Rates of church attendance, religious affiliation, belief in God, prayer and Bible-reading have been dropping for decades. Generation Z, those born between 1999 and 2015, is the first truly “post-Christian” generation and what they don’t believe is alarming. They do not assert any religious identity. They might be drawn to things spiritual, but with a vastly different starting point from previous generations. And it shows: The percentage of Gen Z that identifies as atheist is more than double that of the US adult population. It appears that today’s youth struggle to find a compelling argument for the existence of both evil and a good and loving God. More than one-third (37%) believes it’s not possible to know for sure if God is real. More than half of all Americans, both teens (58%) and adults (62%), agree with the statement “Many religions can lead to eternal life; there is no ‘one true religion.’” This is the result of believers not contending for their faith at home, in the classroom, at work, and in the market place. Jude reminds us that pollution carries its own consequence!

Spiritual ignorance is at an all time high. People often place more credibility on what they feel than what is real. Believers spend too much time arguing over the gnat and the world has swallowed the camel. It’s time to stop arguing over biblical minutia and focus on what matters. Jude writes that…

III. The result of spiritual pollution stinks! (Vv. 10-16)

Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand; and what things they do understand by instinct, like unreasoning animals–these are the very things that destroy them. Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion. These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm–shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted–twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

1. Interestingly when people no longer have a spiritual core they distrust and even hate anything spiritual. Jude writes that “these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand; and what things they do understand by instinct, like unreasoning animals–these are the very things that destroy them. Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.” Cain killed his brother in jealousy, Balaam tried to get rich by selling his gift to the highest bidder, and Korah said that they could worship God anyway and anywhere they wanted! Jude writes very descriptively about these deceptive individuals: “These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm–shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted–twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.” Interestingly Jude quotes another pseudepigraphical book of Enoch where “the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: ‘See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.’” While Jude used books his audience would be familiar with he wasn’t endorsing them as holy or spiritual. He wanted his audience to realize that “These men [were] grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.” Jude knew that the result of spiritual pollution stinks!

EXAMPLE: In partnership with Summit Ministries, Barna conducted a study among practicing Christians in America to gauge how much the tenets new spirituality, secularism, postmodernism and Marxism have influenced Christians’ beliefs. They found strong agreement with ideas to nonbiblical worldviews among practicing Christians. For instance 28% strongly agree that “all people pray to the same god or spirit, no matter what name they use for that spiritual being.” Further, the belief that “meaning and purpose come from becoming one with all that is” has captured the minds of more than 27%. The New Spirituality worldview has also inched its way into Christian ethics; 32% strongly agree that “if you do good, you will receive good, and if you do bad, you will receive bad.” Almost 23% strongly agree that “what is morally right or wrong depends on what an individual believes.” And it was noted that younger believers were willing to embrace Marxism alongside their faith! These things are ungodly, unbiblical, and heretical. Jude reminds us that the result of spiritual pollution stinks!

Conclusion:

Jude reminds us that pollution occurs when believers stop contending for their faith! Jude reminds us that pollution carries its own consequence! Jude reminds us that the result of spiritual pollution stinks!

Slaves and masters! – Ephesians 6:5-9

Slaves and masters! – Ephesians 6:5-9
By Pastor Lee Hemen
April 2, 2017

There are times when employees may feel they are slaves or just a cog in one big giant machine only good for what they can turn out for the “man” but to equate our boredom or nasty bosses to actual slavery is a bit much. Real slavery is no laughing matter and it still exists in many countries of the world today; most notably within those that are predominately Muslim or socialist. While slavery was the predominate thinking for much of the world’s history Christianity has played a huge role in ending this horrendous system of slaves and masters.

Jesus taught that God views all people equal and while Paul and others addressed slaves and masters they knew that God so loved the whole world and that Jesus came to save all mankind. Within those nations who were influenced by Christianity the ungodly system of slavery would eventually be done away with. We can find the seeds to its destruction in how Paul addresses the attitudes of slaves and masters here in Ephesians. Let’s take a look at what Paul wrote and how it should affect our lives today…

READ: Ephesians 6:5-9

So should people view Paul’s statements here in Ephesians as an endorsement of slavery? Absolutely not! Instead we can discover that what mattered most to Paul was how one conducted themselves as a believer. And here in this truth Christians can find that…

I. No matter their position in life believers are to consider themselves as servants of Christ! (Vv. 5-6)

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

1. Slaves in Paul’s day had a harsh existence. They were property considered a thing that could be bought, sold, or destroyed at a whim. Yes, some slaves who served well could become part of a family and in fact receive the same rights and privileges as their masters if the master decided to give them their family’s name. In fact some slaves rose in rank and advantage even higher in society than their own masters! Yet we must look at the deeper truth Paul was trying to give his readers here. We must remember that both slave and master would hear his words. And so Paul began by telling them, “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart”. He knew that slavery was harsh but he also knew that people could serve outwardly yet harbor hatred toward those who are over them. So again he mentions “respect” (literally trembling) and “fear” and “sincerity (single-mindedness) of heart”. We forget in our day and age because we put a deeper emphasis on personal fulfillment rather than being called by God. Paul wrote the Roman church that “God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son… And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.” (Romans 8:28-30 NIV) This is why Paul told slaves to obey their masters “just as you would obey Christ”. Paul was not endorsing slavery but rather teaching new believers how live their faith in difficult circumstances. They were to “Obey” their masters “not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.” This is a good truth for all Christians because no matter what their position in life is believers are to consider themselves as servants of Christ!

EXAMPLE: When my father had to leave for weeks and sometimes months in order to earn a living for our family he would remind us kids, “Mind your mother just as if I were here while I am gone.” We knew that no matter whether he was home or away we had to be obedient to our Mom just as if he were home. Slaves in Paul’s day could have seen their newfound faith and freedom in Christ as an excuse to be disobedient to either their believing or non-believing masters. But Paul reminds them that no matter their position in life believers are to consider themselves as servants of Christ!

Some folks see their job as something they have to do in order to pay the bills but this attitude can make your work drudgery for you. The same is true when one is saved by faith and called to serve the Lord. We can begin to see our service as drudgery; however Paul reminds us that…

II. No matter our position in life Christians are to serve enthusiastically! (Vv. 7-8)

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

1. Enthusiastically is a word that comes from several Greek words that literally mean “in God’s essence” and was originally used by the Greeks to describe manifestations of divine possession but was later used to describe the believer’s life in Christ. Paul writes that new believers were to “serve wholeheartedly” literally from their very beings that now had been changed by their faith in Jesus! In his letter to the Colossian church Paul would remind them to put off any evil in their lives by remembering to put “off your old self with its practices” and instead “put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:8-10) And remember he had just taught them that “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV) The reason for Paul was obvious because when the believer served their masters, bosses, parents or others this way it was as “if you were serving the Lord”! It is easy to go through the motions of just doing your job or your chores but when one does this it is only because they do it as if they were serving “men” and not Jesus. For the believer serving Jesus should never be a chore. The Christian’s attitude should be changed because of their faith in Jesus. We are to live our lives by a different set of values and attitudes because “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV) And we know “that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.” Paul is not enforcing a “works” mentality but rather reminding them that our final reward is different than what the world gives. The world rewards us by our status but God sees us as his new creation. No matter our position in life Christians are to serve enthusiastically!

EXAMPLE: One of the best pieces of advice my father imparted to me in the last days of his life had to do with how I did my work whether it was at school, home, or a job earning money. He related that I would probably do a lot of different things in life just as he had but in all those jobs he learned that if one wants to be successful in life you have to have the right attitude. He related, “Go to work, do your best, do more than what is expected of you, be honest and trustworthy and don’t get involved in gossip.” A believer’s motivation in life is not to be money, prestige, power, or position. Paul would say that no matter our position in life Christians are to serve enthusiastically!

We see that Paul’s view on how Christian slaves were to conduct themselves was radical. It was radical because of the change that occurred in the life of a believer when God comes to reside in them through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore those in charge who were saved were to be radically different as well. We discover that…

III. Christians in charge are not to be prejudice in any way! (v. 9)

And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

1. Equality between sexes, races, or ages is not found in baseless reparations, false apologies, or in making idiotic excuses. You cannot force someone to not be racist, xenophobic, or chauvinistic. Sure you can legislate, make laws, and try to teach social justice but that will never change the inner person who is evil in nature. Paul intrinsically understood this because he had experienced it himself. In fact he had been an evil “enforcer” for his mentors to try and stamp out the early Christian faith. In the Book of Acts we learn that while the followers of Jesus were preaching and teaching others about the love of God expressed in Jesus, Paul “was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.” (Acts 9:1-2 NIV) However Paul was changed “As he neared Damascus on his journey” when “suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.” (Acts 9:3) Paul would later say that Jesus “appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.” (1 Corinthians 15:8) and he would confess “For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them–yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.” (1 Corinthians 15:9-10 NIV) Just as Paul had been changed he now says, “And masters, treat your slaves in the same way” as they had been treated by God. They were placed in charge for a reason just as they had come to faith for a reason and so they were told “Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.” Jesus saw both slave and master as the same. Paul would write, “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26-28 NIV) Christians in charge are not to be prejudice in any way!

EXAMPLE: Atheism is the antithesis of faith. We see its outcome in socialism and communism where mankind is exemplified and faith in God is disdained. Hundreds of millions have been murdered by the atheistic movements found in the Nazism of Germany, the communism of the Soviet Union, China, North Korean, Cambodia, Vietnam, Venezuela, Cuba, and other nations. Atheists believe morality is derived from the social norm but if the social norm is already inwardly and utterly corrupt and evil then your morality will be corrupted as well. This is why many in our day think that society needs to change its moral core from one influenced by faith in God to one based on faith in mankind. We see its outcome. Morality is in a constant state of flux and depends upon how one feels about their self in the moment. Paul says believers are to be influenced by the change that God has done in their very beings; their souls. Christians in charge are not to be prejudice in any way!

Conclusion:

No matter their position in life believers are to consider themselves as servants of Christ! No matter our position in life Christians are to serve enthusiastically! Christians in charge are not to be prejudice in any way!

Who Are the Nazis of Today?

by Lee Hemen

Sadly there is little history being taught in public schools today; not who was the first President, Black History, or other such things but rather why certain things occurred and what differing groups believed and why and what resulted. A good example is the ignorance concerning Socialism, Planned Parenthood, or Nazism.

Nazism is National Socialism where the state controls every aspect of a citizen’s life from healthcare, education, retirement, to science. Everything is to benefit the state. Nazism gained power when radical crowds of organized, Nazi-funded, protestors known as Brown-shirts gained access to public meetings and disrupted them. They would shout down, chant, and bust heads if necessary. Public protests and riots were well orchestrated where protestors were trained, paid, and bused in.

Symbolism and slogans, placards and public protests became an important part of the Nazi Brown-shirt movement. Later music and public rallies were used to pump up crowds and indoctrinate the public. Anyone who stood in their way was branded as narrow-minded, uneducated, and worse racist against their own people. Eugenics, a thinly disguised way to do away with those deemed undesirable was promoted and certain groups were targeted as the reason for the economic failure. The Jews became the scapegoats and later anyone or any group that stood in their way. Popular movie stars and actors, singers, heroes of the day, the press, and even religious leaders supported Nazism. In fact the press became so enchanted and friendly that they fawningly supported its takeover as necessary. It wasn’t until later when anyone who dared disagree, was being re-educated, suddenly disappeared, or were utterly dismissed that the press realized that what they had supported was evil. Nazism was in fact an extreme minority until they gained the public square and began to control public opinion through their protests and the media.

Now if any of this sounds familiar it should. Recently we have seen well organized bused in groups of protestors, local public meetings disrupted admittedly done so by outside agitators, and the orchestration of blaming others for the failure of government. Symbolism and placards, well organized protests and the media’s culpability are seen as these groups dupe others into thinking they are the answer. The blame game is rampant and they have selected their scapegoat. They will do whatever it takes, shout down reasonable discussion, and use the media to promote their brand of National Socialism. Those who disagree will be dismissed as racist, haters, and phobic.

So, who are the Nazis of today?

The Wonderful World of Socialism

The Wonderful World of Socialism
By Lee Hemen
March 10, 2016

When millennials were asked what the definition of socialist was, they often thought it was something like Sweden; they are wrong. Sweden actually enjoys more freedoms than we do in some areas. They are a democratic society. Socialism is the precursor of communism. Socialist views, such as Bernie Sanders espouses, are not only dangerous, they will end up restricting many of the freedoms millennials now enjoy.

Socialism is an economic concept that advocates public ownership of all resources. The production and distribution of resources within a society are then controlled by members of that society collectively or by the government that represents that society. Goods are produced and distributed based on need rather than on market forces such as profitability, price and consumers’ purchasing power. In a socialist economy, workers contribute to society based on their ability and receive according to their needs, rather than being paid wages and using that money to purchase what they want. Private possessions are limited to personal-use items such as clothes, and there is no need or ability for individuals to accumulate wealth, so there is equality among the people.

Therefore, socialism wants big government to run everything from your birth to your death. It cries, “Power to the people!” But in reality it evolves into power to big government which dictates every aspect of your life. It takes from the hard working individual who desires a better life for themselves and their families and gives to those who leech off the governmental teat. The individual does not matter and is forced to share whatever they have garnered for themselves with others whether they like it or not.

It sounds altruistic to the young and politically innocent ears of the millennial but what is hidden behind those the likes of Bernie are horrendous. It takes away any personal initiative because why should anyone strive to do better if what they earn is taken away from them anyway? Why should one go into professional fields or gain a higher education if they know they will be taken care of by the government? Why should I save for my own retirement when the government will take care of me? The ultimate answer is that inherently lazy people won’t. This is why under Obama we now have the highest number of unemployed, underemployed, and welfare recipients in the history of this nation. (For those of you who forgot he did away with welfare reform within the first year of his administration whereby one had to find a job within a given time and get off the governmental dole. It was working and we had the lowest percentage of people on welfare and the lowest actual unemployment in history under those laws.) Your college education means little under socialism.

Socialism also takes away the rights of the individual to go and do what they want when they want to. No more rock climbing, base jumping, or unnecessary activities for you! Under the guise of such slogans as “recycle, reuse, reduce” one begins to discover that they cannot buy certain items anymore, they cannot drive their vehicles the way they used to, nor can they light or heat their homes the same way that is cost effective. In fact, one discovers that in the name of “earth first” socialism one is forced onto mass transit, restricted where they can vacation, and monitored according to the miles they drive. If you think I am wrong, think again. In fact, the individual is so stupid they cannot feed themselves or their families the way they want to because the governmental nannies will restrict what you drink or eat at school, work, or at home. (Those of you who value the new found freedoms of pot smoking are in for a shock when these folks not only come after you with egregious taxation, but how, when, and where you can smoke it. Secondhand marijuana smoke will be regulated and restricted just as tobacco is.)

But the truly scary thing is the restriction of freedom of speech socialism touts. Liberals love to be able to chant their “hey, hey, ho, ho” drivel, flaunt their proclivities, and drop any curse word at the drop of a hat, but woe be it if anyone who disagrees with their mindlessness. If you want to expose their naked dictatorial notions or their sycophantic worship to senseless made-up science they go ballistic. Freedom of expression is only for the politically correct under socialism. They will use terms as “hate”, “fear”, “afraid”, or add “phobic” to any idea they dislike; such as “His hate speech made me fearful and afraid and it sounded homophobic to me” in order to silence any opposition.

Yes the wonderful world of socialism will dictate for you what to think, what to eat, what to wear, and where to go because it will all be based on what big brother thinks is best for the whole community.

Why My Neighbor hates the Democrats…

Why My Neighbor hates the Democrats…
by Lee Hemen
September 16, 2010

Growing up we had a young man who came and worked on the farm next to us, he was from the Soviet Union. It was an exchange program, but we soon learned that they only let certain young men and women come — only those who touted Communism and who were Party Members. At first, he was braggadocios about everything. “In the USSR we already have TVs in every house, provided by the government.” “In the USSR we have bigger combines and our fruit trees grow more fruit.” “Everyone has free healthcare!” Stuff like that. However, as he lived and worked with us, things changed. He was amazed at our stores, the farm machinery, and the cars we owned. He was amazed that how most of our homes had running water, heat, and lights and indoor bathrooms. You have to remember this was in the early 60s or late 50s. My own family did not own a TV yet, but we had an old used Oldsmobile. When we got our old used black and white Sears TV, we invited him over. He was amazed. When he had to leave, he begged us to hide him. He did not want to go back. When we asked him why, he related it was horrible. He told us about the bread lines and the rationing of everything. How they had no heat in winter, no lights and no indoor plumbing, even in the huge apartment high rises in Moscow. He related how everyone hated being told what to do and think. He related how they listened to Radio Free Europe in order to find out what was really going on in the world. All the newspapers were government controlled. I was only 5 or 6 years-old at the time, but it made a huge impression on me. When he left, he hid money in compartments he made in his luggage and wrapped Pall Mall cigarettes for “bribes” for the guards when we went back through Moscow Airport so he could smuggle in what he was taking back.

My next-door neighbor came from Romania. His name is Eli. He was a Christian lay pastor there. He had to hide his Bible in sections at several of his congregation’s homes. They would tear out separate books and hide them under the floorboards. They would meet in different houses on different days. He would tape the sheets to the inside of his body to walk to another home, where he would share and then hide it so that it could not be in the same home for very long. You could not go out after a certain time at night. You never worshiped on Sundays because then the Secret Police would know. People got money for turning in their friends, neighbors and relatives to the government. Children were taught that the government was what you lived for, that there was no God, and to inform on their parents if they cheated the government. It was their patriotic duty.

He related how he worked in a factory there. One person would sweep the floor, one would carry the dustpan, and another would dump it. And still others would carry the trash while a different person would clean out the trash bin. Everyone got the same pay except those who were Party Members and higher up. Everyone had “make work” jobs because everyone was “unionized” under the government and had to pay dues and taxes back to the State. People would be sleeping, the secret police would break down your door, and your father, mother, or siblings would be taken away and never be seen again. If they were, they would be completely different people — inward, silent, and frightened all the time. Hundreds of thousands were secretly murdered by the Government. He and his wife finally got out.

They could not believe what America had to offer. He told me how he just stood in the middle of the aisle of the first grocery store he went into here and wept. He thought he had died and had gone to heaven. He could not believe that Americans actually threw out food and clothing that they would have been excited to get in Romania. He saved every extra penny he earned here to get the rest of his immediate family out and he succeeded. Now, that Romania is free he has gone back to visit. I asked him if would ever return, and he said, “NO, the Communists might come back.” He absolutely hates, and I mean hates, the Democratic Party. He asked me just last week, “Lee, don’t people realize that the Democrats are just Communists? Don’t they realize that Obama is a Communist and he will harm our freedom here? Are they that stupid? What are you taught in school?” He is a US citizen now and proud of it and so glad his children and grandchildren are as well.

As a footnote, he also related to me how shocked everyone in Romania was when America did not come to the aide of Czechoslovakia when the Soviet Union went in with tanks. Everyone had thought that the USA would stand up to Russia and then Romania would all be free after the Czechs. He related how the Russians, because Romania was an occupied country, were frightened that the USA would strike back. They knew they could not have stopped America and that the populations of the territories they had taken over, like Romania, would have revolted. The Russian Army was ready to revolt as well, having been under paid and fed for decades. They wept for weeks when we did nothing.

By the way, they had “free health care,” but no one wanted to use it because you only got sicker or died in the hospital waiting for medicine or a doctor. You had to constantly bribe governmental officials in order to get to the front of the line or better treatment.

You may naively think, “It can’t happen here.” But it is already beginning. Our children are taught to think the “party line” in schools concerning unions, what makes up a family, or concerning the environment. Obamacare is one step removed from the Soviet-style rationing. The government has shut down much of the oil industry, watches what your children eat, think, and do at school and home, has installed over 30 Presidential “Czars” that are paid huge salaries who are only accountable to him, and is quick to brand anyone who disagrees with them as phobic, stupid, or enemies. Your bank and much of the American auto industry is now owned by the Government. It was recently revealed that upwards of 45% of all households in America are getting some kind of Governmental assistance through meal or food stamps, Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid, unemployment benefits, home mortgages or college loans — which, by the way record numbers have defaulted on paying back. Add to this the number of public employees hired by all governments – Federal, State, and local – and what we have here is a failure of our system.

What can change this? You can by voting, by not getting on the governmental dole, and by not thinking someone else “owes” you something for nothing. There is never a “free lunch.” I had to laugh when my neighbor Eli asked, “Whatever happened to people being skeptical of their government? It is a good thing to never trust those in power, whoever they are — but especially Democrats.” He is right and that is why my neighbor hates the Democrats.

Where did all the TRAP money go? No one knows for sure.
Where did all the TARP money go? Obama cronies got every dime.
When will we ever learn?
