Just Wondering…

I was just wondering what you thought about consistency? You know what I mean. There is nothing worse than eating pudding or a cream pie that does not have the right consistency. My sister learned this years ago when she tried to copy my mother’s chocolate cream pie. She had placed her pie in the refrigerator to cool, pulled it out and the entire pie slid out of the pie dish and bounced across the kitchen floor without breaking apart! To make matters worse, our pet boxer dog, Duke, went over sniffed it and left it where it was. And he would eat anything!

Consistency is important to puddings and pie, but it is critical for believers. Why then do so many in their lives display such inconsistency? I believe it is because we have swallowed the lie of worldly acceptance and are confused by what forgiveness means. The Bible declares that Christians are to hold each other accountable to the message, and how it is displayed in our lives, but we no longer do. Perhaps we are too afraid that those we might “judge” for their ungodliness, might expose our inconsistencies?

Too many believers in our day and age have the spiritual consistency of societal soup or are too thickheaded in their myopic views. Christians are to be well jelled in what they believe and why they believe it, but more importantly we are to be consistent in our lives lived for the Lord. Makes one wonder…
