The Most Important Thing

The important thing is that… Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice… (Philippians 1:18)
What is the most important thing in life to you today? Family? Friends? Fame? Finances? Future? Faulty faith finds fear in focusing on forces we cannot influence! As Christians we have got to keep the main thing, the main thing. Last night, I confess, I had sort of a panic attack. Cold sweats, heart beating fast, and an overwhelming sense of fear. And no, it was not brought on by the anguish over Britney Spears’ new concert tour! Rather it was over the general state of the nation right now. No one cannot be affected by what is happening. Some of us “older” folk more so than you younger whippersnappers out there. But as quickly as it occurred it went immediately away. The reason? I know the One who is control.
Paul did as well. This is why he could bluntly write to his friends who worried about him being in prison at Philippi, “But what does it matter?” It did not matter if he was imprisoned or if others were preaching Jesus just to spite Paul, he was right where God wanted him. In fact, Paul knew he was the right person at the right time to proclaim the good news to those he came in contact with! How do I know that? Paul believed it! He had already told them, “I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.” Paul knew and so should you what is important in life: Christ is preached!
We have gotten sidetracked as a “country of Christians”. Wake up American Christians! We have reduced the gospel message to personal pleasure, a happy home life, a slap and dash Benny Hinn extravaganza, or a cheap musical freak show! The gospel message is not about you nor is it to be the main job of your Sunday go to meeting. Surprised? If you are, something is drastically wrong with what you believe.
The gospel is the good news of Jesus, not some Dr. Phil self-help ten-step therapy group, manual, or a king-sized Las Vegas mirror-balled applaud and praise venue but where you actually share your faith in Christ and what He did and is doing in your life right now. You personally. Talk about a reality check!
What is the most important thing in your life dear brother and sister in the Lord? If you did not immediately say, “The gospel!” You need to go back to Sunday School. Right now, right here, right in this country there is no greater thing for a lost and dying world than the gospel message. And if you do not share it, who will? You and you alone are entrusted with the message of God! This is the same message Paul preached and was imprisoned for. It is the same message every Apostle lost their life over. It is the same message that men and women over the centuries have worked diligently to proclaim to the unregenerate masses at the cost of their personal freedom and at great sacrifice. It is the message missionaries willing take to the uttermost parts of the world. It is your message that you are commanded to share with all those you come into contact with on a daily basis! What is the most important thing in your life? What? Nothing else compares to that message. It is about Jesus. It is the most important thing.
