Are You Filled?

“…filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ–to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:11)
Have you ever been “stuffed as a muffin”? You know what I mean. After a birthday party, Thanksgiving, or a fine Christmas feast? Some of us have I suspect. To be full of great food can be a very satisfying thing. A good meal brings happiness and a sense of satisfaction. Yet, Jesus told His disciples, “Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.” (Luke 6:21) Of course He was speaking of those who hunger and thirst after righteousness. In fact, we discover that God’s people are to be “filled” with the satisfaction of Godly things. We are to “seek first” His “kingdom and righteousness,” knowing that we will be truly satisfied if we do.
There are those who try to seek satisfaction through gaining knowledge, riches, or through acquiring things. How foolish is this!? All of these things will pass away and one day we will stand before the Lord. God warned the spiritually foolish that “they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me. Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD, since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.” (Proverbs 1:28-31)
Paul desired that his disciples be “filled with the fruit of righteousness.” It is the “fruit” that comes from walking with and knowing the Lord Jesus Christ. The “fruit of the Spirit” which is “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” These are acquired as the believer walks in the presence of their Lord and Savior. We have to “be filled” with them. It is not some mystical Holy Spirit jolt as some would want you to believe, but the presence of the Lord manifesting Himself through you as you become more and more like Jesus. Paul said it “comes through Jesus Christ.” Not by being “breathed” on or falling down uttering nonsensical blatherings that do not affect you or the world around you but only serve to make you think you feel “holy” when your life is in reality a sinful shambles. It is a life that brings “glory and praise” to God alone. It is the holy sacrifice of daily dying to self and allowing God to live through you in the ardor of the Lord Jesus.
You want to be “stuffed as a muffin” in the Lord today? Dear Child of the Lord go to Him and seek first His kingdom and righteousness in all that you do and you will be “filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ–to the glory and praise of God.”
