Cool, Clear, Clean, Water – Today’s Thoughts…

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams. One will say, “I belong to the LORD”; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, “The LORD’s,” and will take the name Israel. (Isaiah 44:3-5)
Have you ever been thirsty? I mean really thirsty? Where you would sell your soul for one small sip of even tepid water? Few of us have. We live in a nation where clean water, abundant resources, and where soft drinks, flavored iced teas, and drink mixes are available by the truckload. If we had to we could go to the nearest house and drink from an outside water faucet. Most of us may have been a little parched after a hard workout, a long run, and hard day’s work or day of play in the sun, but few of us have ever been truly thirsty where if we did not get a drink soon we would perish. Isaiah describes such a situation with Israel.
Israel had become a dry thirsty land where dry dust filled the mouths of those who sought any spiritual solace. For the thirst Isaiah is describing here is one of spiritual drought. Like dead men staggering in the dry desert looking for any source of refreshment, Israel was staggering along dying of thirst. The heat of rebellion and the dirt of sin was choking their throats. The heat of the world beat on them and they staggered on into the blinding scorching blaze ahead.
In the midst of their sizzling spiritual drought God held out a promise of hope. He would “pour water on the thirsty land.” His Spirit would refresh the souls of those who were spiritually dying in the desert. Like streams of living water, God’s Spirit would come anew and Israel’s descendants would “spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by a flowing streams.” They would gladly declare that their thirst was quenched by the Lord. They would say, “I belong to the Lord,” and they would willingly brand themselves as “The Lord’s.”
How thirsty are you today dear child of the Lord? How parched is your soul for the cool clean living water of God? Do not be confused by the soft drinks, iced teas, and Kool Aid available to you the world offers. It is false. It may quench you for a time, but only the Spiritual clean clear water from the Lord will truly satisfy the baked soul of the saint.
Come back today to the streams of the Living God and drink from His stream. Sit down by the side of the brook He provides and read readily from His Word and find refreshment for your soul. Oh, remember the words of the Savior as He delightfully spoke to the sweltering soul of the woman at the well, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14) Drink deep and long from the well spring of the Lord.
