Every news media outlet was a titter about the news last week that Exxon/Mobil earned a record 11.68 billion dollars. What they failed to let you know that even though it amounted to $1,500 a second, the same company had invested 7.4 billion in new technologies, drilling, and exploration to find new sights for drilling during the same period. The rest did not go into the pockets of “greedy” CEOs but into the pockets of investors like you. Why? If you have an annuity, retirement, or investment portfolio then you most likely have oil stock in it. If you do not, fire your investment broker or firm and get a new one right away.
However, let’s put this into perspective shall we? What this means is that Exxon/Mobil earned about what amounts to eight cents for every dollar of gas it sold. That’s right boys and girls, eight cents. Wal-Mart earns over twelve cents per dollar sold and Microsoft earns twenty-five cents per dollar sold. Did you know that U.S. insurance companies annually collect over $1 trillion in premiums, and today the industry is sitting atop $3.8 trillion in assets (more than the GDP of every country in the world, except the United States and Japan)? But all you have heard recently is about how horrible the oil industry is. Did you realize that while Exxon Mobile reported a record high $11.68 billion net income and $138 billion total income in the second quarter, that according to CNN, the company paid $10.5 billion in taxes on that income. In fact, at the same time Exxon/Mobil was earning this billion dollar figure that State and Federal taxes collected from the sale of gasoline amounted to over 35 billion dollars? And that my tax-paying ignoramus is pure profit for these political pickpockets.
Now enter fancy Nancy Pelosi and Barack Hussein Obama. She will not allow a vote on a single energy bill, wanting to use your suffering at the pump as a means to get fellow Democrats elected. Democrats have controlled Congress far longer than Republicans since WWII. And recently, when Republicans did control both houses, they could not garner enough votes to pass good energy legislation, which they tried to do multiple times. Who held them up? Pelosi and her tax hungry horde. Democrats are not concerned for your pocketbook unless they can squeeze more taxes out of your lifeless body. Now Barack “Snake-oil” Obama wants domestic energy producers to forfeit profits to the government in order to issue $500 and $1,000 checks to consumers to help them keep up with rising energy costs. Who do you think will end up paying for this shell game of Obama’s? If you think the oil industry, you deserve to have Democrats in Congress. Here’s a hint: You will. You will pay for it because this money has to be made up from somewhere and they will have to charge you more for gas because of it. And the dirty little secret is that when you are charged more for gasoline or a quart of oil, you pay more in Federal and State taxes. Instead of sticking it to the oil industry, like you think you will be doing, you will be silently taxed for getting a “stimulus” check from this Obama/Pelosi political ponzi-scheme.
Democrats like Pelosi and Obama have had more than enough of our taxes and time to get us independent from foreign oil and they have done nothing. During their tenure gas and oil prices have skyrocketed, while their political fund-raising pockets are filled. The USA could have had great energy policies decades ago but Democrats were more interested in taxes than the US economy. We could have been free from foreign oil but for them in office. We need to vote out every politician that does not support freedom from foreign oil, drilling here and now, and lowering taxes that hinder us at the pump and the use of our own vital national resources. This would include investing in new energies, nuclear, natural gas, solar, and wind power. It would also include developing an effective auto industry that frees us from natural oil entirely within a decade. We have the technologies and the resources, now let’s do it.
