And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
There it is all over again. The one truth that so many stumble over and still want to continue to “do something” instead of believing in someone. The writer makes it very plain that “without faith it is impossible.” It is impossible to have a relationship with God. It is impossible to call yourself a Christian. It is impossible to be ‘good enough,” or do enough good things in order to be holy, righteous, or loved by God. And the truth hits us like a ton of bricks that “without faith it is impossible to please God.” We can try to please ourselves, please others, and we certainly can try to please God, but without faith it is impossible. Meaning, it cannot be done.
As Americans we love to think we can do anything, and perhaps we can as far as industry, science, or philanthropy is concerned, but if we try to do anything to please God without first believing, we fail utterly, miserably, and completely. Why? “Because,” first of all, “anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists.” That means you are willing to say that someone other than yourself is in charge, made all things, and is in control of all things. After all, God is God. There cannot be two “gods” because that is in of itself a spiritual oxymoron. It is a spiritual impossibility. Some will ignorantly say, “Wait a minute! Don’t Christians believe there are three gods?” This is spiritual stupidity and a deliberate willingness to ignore theology. Christians believe in the biblical concept of one Godhead, with three distinct personalities that are manifested from it: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So do not go there nattering on about a Christian’s belief in three gods, because it is simply intentional spiritual ignorance on your part, and it shows you are trying to “please God,” by doing something without faith.
Notice there is a third part to this spiritual truth, namely, that God “rewards those who earnestly seek him.” How? He gives them eternal life if they are willing to come to Him by faith through His Son Jesus Christ. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…” (1 Timothy 2:5) “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) Abel, Noah, Jacob, Abraham, Moses all found this out to be true: “without faith it is impossible to please God.” You now know why. You now have a choice. You now have the opportunity to either realize you are one of the chosen of God or reject Him and be rejected by Him. The choice is yours, but remember this well that “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
