Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  (Ephesians 1:3)

I absolutely love the Book of Ephesians because of this section. Why? Do you not see what this simple yet wonderful statement entails? Paul is praising God for Jesus. You say, “So, we are supposed to praise God for Jesus because He saved us.” Yes, this is true but if that is all you know or see, you are… excuse me but spiritually dense because the truth here is not that we should praise God for Jesus, but that the reason why we should praise God for Jesus. Namely, that God “has blessed us in the heavenly realms with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ!” Not some, not what we could earn, not what we think we may feel, but E V E R Y one of them!

It only gets better for believers when Paul continues with the wonderful description that “He [God] chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will—to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.” (Ephesians 1:4-6) WOW! God Himself chose me “before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.” Why in the world would God do such a wonderful thing for me? He did it because of His character: His love. He did it “in love” so that I could be “adopted as [one of] His sons through Jesus Christ!” But more than that it was because God decided to do it and He did it “in accordance with His pleasure and will.” God did it because He wanted to do it and because it brought Him pleasure to do so! No wonder Paul wanted to praise God the Father! No wonder I should as well!

Little child of Christ please understand what this means and the impact this should have for your life today. It means that God chose you as well before the creation of everything simply because it brought Him pleasure to do so. It brought Him pleasure because it is part and parcel of who He is and the outward expression His character of love. Because God decided to do so we now enjoy “every spiritual blessing in Christ.” Now is it becoming clearer for you? Now do you see the enormity of this statement? Do you understand what you enjoy and why?

So, when you walk this world, when you face each day, when life comes faster than you want it to you can remember clearly and without any doubt that God Himself chose you before creation to enjoy every spiritual blessing in Christ because He loves you! Now, live like it. Rejoice in it. Never doubt your standing with God. He has chosen you and blessed you far more than you could ever imagine. Praise God! Praise God! Praise God!
