Today’s Thoughts, Galatians, 3:22-29

But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:22-29)

I love to read Paul’s letters. He never minced words but laid out the truth of God in clear concise terms. Right here within these eight verses contain the entire message of the Bible for all mankind. He tells us that the “whole world is a prisoner to sin.” All people are in sin and did not and do not have an answer for their condition until “what was promised” was “given through faith in Jesus Christ.” Not by being good, not by being born into a nice religious family, not by holding politically correct ideals, but only by “faith in Jesus Christ… to those who believe.” In fact he relates that we were “held prisoners by the law,” those things I just described above, “until faith should be revealed.” It now has been revealed since Jesus has come. People are saved by faith not by the church they join, where they are born, or by the rules they follow. In fact following the ten commandments helped to “lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.” The teaching is clear that “now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law!” Praise Jesus Christ!

There are those who cringe at this because they like to think we are all children of God simply by the fact we walk this earth. However this simply is not true and it is not biblical. People are only “sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Before you get angry and ignorantly declare, “Who are you to judge me!” or “That’s not fair!” Paul reminds us that “There is neither Jew nor Greek slave, free, male nor female, for you are all one [only] in Christ Jesus!” That is how you become a child of God.

The final word of Paul contains a tremendous truth that many would not have you understand or know as well: “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” that God made so long ago to Abram. If you have placed your faith and trust in Jesus, you are one of His chosen people. In fact, that is the only way you can become one is to believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah and Savior of your soul. Israel has been established through its people who belong to God through Jesus the Messiah. All people, whether Jew, Greek, slave, or free, male or female, we are all Abraham’s seed when we come to the Messiah Jesus by faith. The kingdom of God has been founded and is ruled by Him. Peter would say that when you become a believer in Jesus “you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9) Are you a King’s kid and part of His kingdom?
